During 2010 I became particularly interested in the undrawn areas that started appearing in my works.  While the drawn areas could provide the context to the piece and hold a lot of detail and texture, the undrawn areas could also define an object in its absence against the drawn spaces.  These white spaces provided a resting space for the eye as it cast over the surface of the picture, as well as draw the eye around the picture plane. The pieces below were very influential on how I went about painting with gouache on paper in 2011 and onwards.
